There is much reflection at year end and discussion not only of the best horses of the year but also of the decade. The horses that have excited us and been memorable are easy choices. There are others on my list that I feel are deserving of being here for several reasons.

 Horse racing has some of the highest highs and the lowest lows. There are stories that are quite unlike other sports because the main players do not care about prize money or earnings and have no concept of retirement. The horses themselves either have the will to run and compete or they don't, and if they don't there is no amount of whipping that will make them be a champion.

oodmare and what better way to do so than with an equally tough, intelligent horse to breed her to. Tiznow carried a determination to win including at those higher levels. She's tough, he's tough. Both could carry enough speed to get the win, sometimes by daylight and sometimes by a desperate nose but a win is a win.
