Eclipse Award

Some nice 2007 foals hit the track as two year olds in 2009 and among the best are those nominated for Eclipse awards in the 2 year old division.

The top nominations for colts are Lookin at Lucky, Noble’s Promise and Vale of York while the top fillies nominated are Blind Luck, Hot Dixie Chick and She Be Wild.

He was Washginton Horse of the Year in 1983, Washington champion sprinter and Eclipse Award sprinter that same year as well as Washington champion handicap horse. In 1982 he was Washington champion sprinter, champion three year old and Horse of the Year.

me and to have more than one graded stakes named after him some day, but I'd love for him to get an Eclipse Award and be officially celebrated in his own time.

The very fact that he has no patience for coddling and fussing makes Kip DeVille loveable as hell, of course. Even underachieving stakes level race horses spend their careers with an entourage that makes Posh Spice look like a loner -- grooms, vets, exercise riders, trainers, assistant trainers, hot walkers, stable hands, assistant starters, jockeys -- not to mention horsy helpers (lead ponies) escorting them to the training track and the starting gate. A medieval sun king received less nannying than surrounds the contemporary high class thoroughbred.

From the beginning my thoughts on this blog were not just the well known horses and events that there was already massive coverage of but the sometimes unseen. Everyone knows Curlin. The names of FunnyCide and DaHoss ring familiar even after retirement. So Good Night Shirt is another who deserves a moment in the sun.
